Ulthera® Skin Tightening

Skin Tightening with Ultrasound

Ulthera, available at Cosmedica in Burlington, is the next evolution in aesthetic science. It delivers focused ultrasound energy to the same foundational layer typically addressed by surgeons during cosmetic surgery — without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.  This energy initiates the body’s natural response to stimulate the growth of fresh, new collagen and strengthen weak collagen. Some of our Ulthera patients from Hamilton, Oakville, Brantford, Mississauga, and surrounding areas see an initial effect right after treatment but the real results appear over 2 to 3 months as new collagen builds, gradually lifting and tightening skin on the face and neck and smoothing skin on the chest.

At Cosmedica, we want to help you look and feel the best you can! Request a consultation or call Cosmedica at 905-631-6288 to discover the possibilities.

A Popular Choice

Technological advances have made nonsurgical skin tightening techniques some of the most popular med spa procedures in recent years, helping patients restore firm, youthful contours in areas where their skin has sagged with age or they’ve struggled with excess fat. At Cosmedica our talented team of nurses have performed clinical evaluations of numerous non-invasive skin tightening treatments to offer our patients effective, lasting results. Ultherapy treatment performed the best, and we’re excited to offer this breakthrough technology at our clinic.

More About Ulthera®

What Is the Ulthera®?

Ulthera treatments are cleared by Health Canada and the FDA in the U.S. and use ultrasound energy to target deep layers of the skin with precision, even deeper than radiofrequency (RF). This treatment heats underlying tissue to stimulate and strengthen collagen growth, while the temperature at the surface is regulated to ensure patients remain comfortable during treatments.

The system can be used to tighten skin on the following areas:

  • Face

  • Neck

  • Arms

  • Abdomen

  • Thighs

Combining Skin Tightening with Other Treatments

The treatments can be combined with other nonsurgical anti-aging procedures, such as injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers.

What to Expect

Moderate redness and minor swelling last briefly, and you can get back to your daily routine almost immediately. Ultherapy is not a laser skin tightening treatment. Patients at our Burlington clinic don’t endure skin peeling, pigment changes, or prolonged healing after an Ultherapy session. Treatments are generally comfortable.

When Will I See Results?

The energy heating the deeper layers of skin immediately triggers collagen remodeling, so you may see some results instantly after your treatment. The most significant improvements occur gradually and usually arise about 6 weeks to 6 months after your final treatment. In some cases, however, new collagen can be produced for up to 18 months!

Nonsurgical Neck Lift

Women and men who are just beginning to see loose skin on their necks can benefit from a nonsurgical neck lift with Ulthera. A surgical neck lift produces more dramatic results and may be a better option for many patients.

The best candidates for these nonsurgical treatments are younger patients with minimal degrees of skin laxity, fatty deposits, and muscle deformations. The results are less pronounced and are less durable than surgical options.

Nonsurgical Eyelid Lift

If droopy upper eyelids make you appear tired all of the time, a nonsurgical eyelid lift with an Ulthera skin tightening treatment can help for certain patients. Ulthera can safely treat the delicate eyelid skin and create a more rested appearance.

Improved Appearance of Cellulite

Even though Ulthera is not designed to improve the appearance of cellulite on its own, studies have shown that combining Ulthera with RADIESSE® creates smoother, less dimpled skin.

Combining Skin Tightening With Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sometimes we need to replenish volume-loss in our face as well as lift the sagging skin. Our highly trained nurses can give you guidance as to whether this may be the case for you. Ulthera is excellent for lifting, firming and tightening the skin on your face and jawline. Although, because it takes some time to see full results, many of our patients combine treatment with either Dermal fillers or Sculptra injections to get an immediate rested look and add volume to areas that may be sunken. Injectable treatments are spaced two weeks apart from your ulthera treatment to allow skin to heal in between therapies. Patients that combine both treatments end up with the best of both worlds! It is definitely the best treatment combination if you want well-rounded results.

Dermal fillers and Sculptra have two completely different treatment indications. You can also visit our Dermal Fillers & Sculptra page to learn more about when you would use each and why.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Because different patients have different levels of tolerance for discomfort, it’s difficult to provide a single answer to this question. Many patients experience very little discomfort during Ulthera treatments. As with any energy-based treatment, it’s normal to have some discomfort. We can discuss your options for using over-the-counter pain medication or applying a numbing cream before the procedure.

  • Clinical studies show Ulthera reduces the appearance of sagging skin, crow’s feet, smile lines, and drooping chin skin. In 2009, Health Canada and the FDA in the U.S. approved Ulthera for non-invasive eyebrow lifts, non-invasive neck and chin lifts, and the improvement of fine lines and wrinkles on the décolleté (upper chest) area.

  • Preparing for an Ulthera treatment is relatively easy. There are some things to avoid, however, in the days prior to your treatment. This includes:

    Blood-thinning medications and supplements

Direct sun exposure 3 to 5 days before treatment

Retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid

You should reschedule your appointment if you have a cold sore or skin infection.

  • Most Ulthera patients get the desired results after a single treatment session. In some cases, however, more than one treatment may be needed. This depends on the degree of skin laxity, the individual’s response to ultrasound, and the collagen-building process. You may also need follow-up treatments each year to maintain results.

  • We discuss your options during the consultation after we examine your skin’s degree of laxity and talk about your specific cosmetic goals.
