Answers to Common Questions About Body Procedures
At your consultation, Dr. Weiglein will take as much time as needed to answer all of your questions, big or small. In the meantime, you may find some of the answers you are looking for in these answers to common questions.
Q. I exercise more than ever and I am constantly on a diet. Why doesn’t my body look the way it used to?
Some things improve with age but we all know time isn’t necessarily kind to our bodies. The skin loses elasticity, we begin to lose muscle mass and our hormones change often causing our shape to change as well. Add to that pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations and you may be fighting an uphill battle.

Q. Am I vain because I don’t want to look like I’ve “let myself go?”
Of course not! You have every right to want a healthy, well-proportioned body that looks good in and out of clothes. It’s perfectly natural to want to “fix” those body concerns that are simply beyond your control. You only get one body…you might as well enjoy it!
Q. What about scars? I’m afraid they’ll be worse than the bulges I’m trying to fix.
Liposuction scars are tiny, well concealed, and will fade to almost nothing over time. A tummy tuck does produce a longer scar, but it, too, fades, and it will be covered by a bathing suit or underwear. Arm lift scars also tend to fade nicely. The overwhelming majority of patients feel that the benefits of their body contouring surgery are well worth the scars.
Q. Do I need liposuction or a tummy tuck to fix my pot belly?
That depends on many factors. If you have sagging skin and abdominal muscles that have been stretched by pregnancy or obesity, liposuction alone will not make you happy. Tummy tuck surgery is a more involved procedure but that’s because it repairs the cause of the protruding belly and gets rid of all that extra skin and stretch marks. Liposuction can be combined with a tummy tuck for outstanding results.
If you have good, resilient skin on your abdomen and the protrusion is just caused by isolated pockets of fat, liposuction might be a good option for you. Only an in-person evaluation can determine this.
Q. What about ultrasonic liposuction or laser liposuction? Aren’t they better?
There is no proof that any of these is better than conventional liposuction. We always use power assisted liposuction (PAL) and the tumescent technique which offer optimal safety and produce beautiful contours with less bruising and bleeding.
Q. What parts of the body can be liposuctioned?
A skilled liposuction surgeon can use this procedure to reduce fatty deposits in the hips, flanks, inner and outer thighs, abdomen, knees, calves, ankles, arms, back, chest and neck as long as the area in question has skin that will reliably shrink.
Q. Can I combine procedures?
Yes. If Dr. Weiglein determines that 2 procedures can be performed together safely within a reasonable operating time, this is an excellent option. Combining procedures shortens overall recovery time and provides more dramatic results. He regularly combines liposuction with a tummy tuck or an am lift. Moms often choose to pair their tummy tuck with a breast augmentation or a breast lift.
Q. I don’t want anyone to know about my surgery. How do I keep it private?
The decision to undergo surgery is a very personal one, and frankly, it’s no one’s business but your own. Cosmedica was specifically designed to make you feel comfortable and improve the quality of your life. Our offices are set up to protect your privacy, and to ensure that you can come and go discreetly. Even though we do make a point of checking up on you after your procedure, this discretion carries through to all of our post-treatment communications.
