What Is BBL?
BBL is a light-based procedure that uses dual-lamp technology, each operating on a customizable wavelength to fade the look of many different skin conditions. At Cosmedica, we use Sciton® Forever Young BBL for brown pigment and red discolouration, Forever Clear for acne, and Forever Bare for hair reduction. All of these feature customizable adapters to help us treat skin evenly, as well as thermoelectric cooling to keep the outermost layers of your skin cool and comfortable throughout your entire treatment.

Is BBL Laser Therapy Right for Everyone?
Some patients may be better served by an “ablative” procedure such as laser skin resurfacing, which removes damaged layers of surface skin. Dr. Weiglein and his highly experienced nurses can recommend which skin treatment is best for your needs, and he can also recommend other enhancements to complete your rejuvenation, such as injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

What To Expect
BBL treatments take about a half-hour. Although it’s possible to see significant results after the first session, we usually recommend 3 to 4 treatments to achieve an optimal outcome, depending on the problem we are targeting. Downtime is minimal, although some redness of the treated areas may last 24 hours to 2 to 3 days following treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the BBL laser good for your skin?
BBL laser treatments stimulate your body’s collagen and elastin production, improving your skin’s texture, tone, and elasticity. If you have an olive or dark skin tone, there may be some risk of hyperpigmentation with a BBL treatment. It’s always best to talk with your provider about your personal goals and potential risks.
Which is better, BBL, HALO®, or IPL?
While each of these options improves the appearance of photo-aged skin, they vary in strength, downtime, and recommended number of treatments. Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a light-based treatment that is the mildest of the three. BBL is a more advanced version of IPL, addressing the overall appearance of the skin as well as acne, mild laxity, and rosacea. It’s a good choice for those who want little to no downtime and have time for several treatment sessions to achieve their goals. HALO laser is more potent, resurfacing the skin’s top layer while also addressing deeper skin layers. It’s ideal for those who prefer 1 or 2 stronger treatments and don’t mind a longer recovery period.
Is BBL face treatment a good way to get rid of wrinkles?
A BBL treatment effectively smooths out fine lines and wrinkles. However, if you have deeper lines and folds, you may find better results with other treatments such as dermal fillers.
Does the BBL laser treatment tighten the skin?
BBL promotes collagen and elastin production, so it does offer some skin tightening benefits for mild skin laxity. For more pronounced sagging, Ulthera® skin tightening treatments may offer more satisfying results.
How long do BBL results last?
You may enjoy your BBL results for about a year as long as you continue to protect your skin daily with sunscreen, hydration, and routine skin care. Most patients schedule annual treatments to maintain their results.
