The wrinkles are gone. The spots are gone. I look so much younger.
Facial lines and wrinkles are evidence of skin deterioration. Age, sun exposure, smoking, and genetics all result in the loss and disruption of collagen. People with rough texture, irregular colour, wrinkling, and other superficial signs of aging often find relief in energy procedures such as laser skin resurfacing. Residents of Burlington, Hamilton, London, and other Ontario cities frequently choose to rejuvenate their skin with laser resurfacing at Cosmedica.
Good Candidates for Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is a versatile treatment that can benefit patients with a range of concerns about the condition of their skin. It's important to be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the results that laser treatments can produce. A few signs that laser skin resurfacing may be right for you:
- You have leathery, sun-damaged skin.
- You are concerned about wrinkles around your eyes.
- You have developed blotchy, brown spots.
- You want to minimize acne scars.
- You have certain types of precancerous skin growths.
Beyond these guidelines, the best way to determine whether you're a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Weiglein at Cosmedica.

How Laser Resurfacing Works
Laser resurfacing is a precise treatment that improves skin texture and elasticity using the body's natural healing process. The laser targets specific areas and removes the skin's outer layers, prompting the growth of new cells and collagen, which gives skin its youthful appearance.
All laser resurfacing treatments are performed personally by Dr. Weiglein, not a nurse or medical esthetician. Getting effective results from laser resurfacing requires the skills of a physician with Dr. Weiglein's training and experience.
This treatment gets dramatic results that are unmatched by similar but less aggressive procedures common at day spas. Treatments at Cosmedica range from medium-strength to aggressive. In some cases, Dr. Weiglein will recommend using general anesthesia during the procedure, which allows him to yield results that are superior to 5 or 6 regular-strength treatments. Topical anesthetic can keep patients comfortable during medium-level laser resurfacing treatments.
Our skin care team can customize skin resurfacing treatments with the Halo hybrid fractional laser, the first of its kind. We adjust your treatment to precisely target the correct depth, allowing us to reverse damage caused by sun exposure and aging. Besides minimizing wrinkles, the Halo fractional laser can improve the skin's tone and texture, reduce the size of pores, and enhance the skin's glow.
After applying a topical anesthetic to ensure you remain comfortable, we pass the Halo hand piece over the skin. Varying wavelengths target both the top and bottom layers of the skin. Tissues targeted below the surface regenerate through the body's natural healing process. In the first 2 to 3 days after treatment, the skin sees some swelling and redness. Then it begins to turn brown and peels off. The entire process takes about 7 to 10 days, leaving you with glowing, younger-looking skin.
This advanced technology changes the idea that better results require either more downtime or more treaments. By combining the best attributes of both non-ablative and ablative fractional lasers, the Halo device allows us to customize your treatments. Depending on your specific needs, you may need 1 to 2 treatments or a different level of energy for desired results. In either case, the results will last for years. This is the same technology used by diVa™ for vaginal laser therapy treatments.

Before & After Treatment
Dr. Weiglein asks patients to stop taking certain over-the-counter medications, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, 10 days before treatment to reduce the risk of bleeding. If you smoke, it's requested that you stop for 2 weeks prior to your appointment. The areas being treated are numbed prior to your procedure, which can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the extent of the treatment.
After the procedure, swelling and redness are normal. Itching and stinging are also common during the first 2 to 3 days. Laser resurfacing causes your skin to peel after about a week, and it takes up to 3 weeks before the skin heals. It's important to use the post-procedure care kit given to you, which will ensure a prompt and safe recovery.
For those whose skin is showing early signs of aging, we can perform milder Halo treatment, a MicoLaserPeel, or a series of chemical peels. We also offer products from ZO® Skincare here at our Burlington medical spa. These products are especially useful for patients who want to improve their at-home regimens and maintain the beautiful results they see after our clinical treatments.
During your consultation, Dr. Weiglein and our team evaluate your skin and design a treatment plan for your precise needs and preferences.
The Crisalix 3-D simulator software lets you see how you might look after surgery, and allows you to make modifications and review the different outcomes during the consultations.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does laser resurfacing cost?
A patient's first single 60-minute Halo resurfacing treatment is priced at $1,500. The cost of each treatment decreases in succession. The second treatment is $1,000, and the third is $750. Patients may also opt to purchase a 3-treatment package at a cost of $2,995-a savings of $255. This package also includes a free MicroLaserPeel™ treatment (a value of $550).
A single spot treatment, which usually lasts about 30 minutes, cost $350 initially and $100 for each additional spot. Scars and stretch marks are treated for $500 per session.
What is the best laser for skin resurfacing?
There are a wide variety of laser technologies available these days. It's not really a matter of singling out a specific device as the best, but determining which treatment offers promising remedies for your unique skin concerns. One of the primary reasons Dr. Weiglein favors the Halo hybrid fractional laser is its versatility, allowing for treatment of a range of skin conditions.
Is laser acne scar removal possible?
The majority of patients who come to our practice for laser acne treatments have been very satisfied. Depending on the level of aggressiveness, either Dr. Weiglein or one of his highly trained nurses will perform your resurfacing procedure. It is important to understand that laser treatments can minimize the appearance of scarring — but in many cases, complete removal of scars is not possible.
How can I maintain the results of a laser treatment?
The importance of post-treatment skin care cannot be overstated. Most complications following laser skin resurfacing occur when patients don't properly care for their skin. That's why Cosmedica supplies each patient with a post-procedure kit. For maintaining the results into the future, the single most important step is protecting your skin from the sun. Apply sunscreen daily, wear clothes that can cover exposed areas, and wear a hat if you're going to be in the sun for an extended period.
