Sculptra: Why it’s Different From Other Fillers

Our menu of cosmetic injectable treatments continues to expand with the recent addition of Sculptra. At our Burlington skin care centre, our team of aesthetic specialists is excited about creating customized treatment plans that include Sculptra’s long-lasting results.

Sculptra is one of the nonsurgical tools we use at Cosmedica to address early signs of aging that concern most women and men. It differs from the way most other fillers work because it isn’t formulated with hyaluronic acid. Becky, one of our talented and experienced nurse injectors, explains in this Instagram post why we’re so excited to offer Sculptra.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sculptra

Many of our patients want more information about Sculptra, so we’ll answer some of the most common questions here.

What makes Sculptra different?

Most dermal fillers are smooth gels made with hyaluronic acid and restore volume to treatment areas before they dissipate and get absorbed by the body. Sculptra, on the other hand, is made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), and it actually stimulates the production of new collagen. Collagen is an essential element of more youthful-looking skin, working with elastin and hyaluronic acid to help maintain the skin’s shape while keeping it smooth and hydrated. When the skin absorbs the PLLA microparticles, new collagen is gradually produced to help replenish the skin’s structure and volume.

What areas of the face is Sculptra used?

Our nurse injectors recommend Sculptra on the lateral part of the face, including the temples and jawline, to minimize volume loss in the face and create an extra lift while adding volume and promoting collagen formation to the skin structure. They inject Sculptra deeper into the skin than hyaluronic acid fillers because that’s where collagen is produced.

How many treatments are needed?

We typically schedule a series of 3 treatments spread over a few months to produce the optimal results. The number of injections needed during each treatment session varies depending on the extent of the correction needed and the goals you describe to the injector.

How long do the results last?

Even though Sculptra doesn’t produce the immediate results that other fillers create, the results last longer. Results emerge gradually, with subtle but noticeable changes occurring as wrinkles and lines start to fade. Most patients enjoy these results for more than 2 years.

Are the results reversible?

The effects of Sculptra injections cannot generally be reversed. It’s important to make sure you choose an experienced, highly qualified injector for your treatments.

Can Sculptra be combined with other fillers?

Absolutely. Our specialists create comprehensive skin rejuvenation treatment plans that may include other fillers, BOTOX® or Nuceiva™ injections, or energy-based procedures designed to improve the skin’s texture and appearance.

Retaining a youthful, rested appearance is possible without surgery. Take a look at the types of results that filler injections produce in our gallery of before-and-after photos.
