Lip procedures are some of the most requested treatments at Cosmedica. From targeting smokers’ lines or perfecting lip shape to adding luscious volume with dermal fillers, our Burlington injectors see—and do it—all!
With Google so readily available at our fingertips, many patients come in after doing their own research. Still, most are left lost and perplexed as to which is the best option for them with all the information and techniques out there.
What Kind of Lip Procedures Are There?
The top 3 options for lip procedures are:
- Surgical interventions with a lip lift
- Nonsurgical lip flip with either BOTOX Cosmetic® or Nuceiva
- Nonsurgical lip augmentation with dermal filler
Let’s go through each of the three options in more detail.
Lip Lift
A lip lift is a surgical procedure performed by a plastic surgeon. This option is recommended for an individual with an elongated or longer upper lip. It involves making a small incision under the nose and removing excess skin from the upper lip. This process lifts the lip up in its entirety and decreases the distance from nose to lip, which gives a more youthful appearance.
Downtime varies from patient to patient; however, most can expect a week or so of downtime with bruising, discomfort, and swelling. This is a permanent option, but patients will still be required to continue with some additional treatments nonsurgically in the future to maintain results.
Lip Flip
A nonsurgical lip flip procedure is a treatment injected by a highly qualified cosmetic nurse and involves using a neurotoxin like BOTOX or Nuceiva. Injections around the lip border can not only help to minimize pursing—which alleviates smokers’ lines—but will also add a slightly lifted effect causing the lip to be “flipped.”
This treatment has little to no downtime and is recommended to be done every couple of months for continuous results.
Lip Augmentation
For longer-lasting results than a lip flip, a lip augmentation can be done. It provides patients with results that last up to 6 to 12 months. For this treatment, we inject hyaluronic acid filler into the lip itself to give structure and volume. We also inject lip fillers around the lips to support the corners, reversing the signs of aging and adding hydration. (We talk more about this and how we smooth other lines around the mouth in a related blog post.) This process will result in some mild downtime, including bruising and swelling for up to a few days.
You can see how lip filler injections added just the right amount of beautiful volume to our patient’s lips in the pictures below.
