CoolSculpting® is one of our Burlington practice’s most popular procedures. Men and women consistently choose the nonsurgical fat reduction treatment to help them address stubborn pockets of fat they can’t correct through diet and exercise alone. With the procedure’s growing popularity, more prospective patients are becoming curious about whether the hit treatment may be able to help them reach their own body goals.
Whether you’re a great CoolSculpting candidate depends on your body type, your expectations, and the results you’re looking to achieve. In this blog post, we’ll review who the treatment can best help and how you can determine if it’s the right path for you.
What Is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a noninvasive body contouring procedure that reduces fat in localized areas through targeted cooling. The scientific process behind the treatment, cryolipolysis, safely freezes and destroys selective fat cells without harming the surrounding tissue. Patients can typically expect to see a fat loss of around 20 to 30% in treated areas. It’s important to note CoolSculpting isn’t intended to be used as an overall weight loss method, but rather as a way to slim down small, stubborn pockets of fat that resist diet and exercise.
The treatment takes about an hour per targeted area. Your experience during the procedure depends on the applicator used. When treating the abdomen, for example, the device suctions the treatment area. Other specialized applicators are attached to areas without pinchable fat. No matter the treatment area, patients usually feel a cooling or numbing sensation as the process begins. During the treatment you can to relax, read, or even nap until it’s complete. We then warm the area back up, massage the hardened fat, and you will be free to return to your normal daily activities immediately.
What CoolSculpting Treats
CoolSculpting is most commonly used on the abdomen and thighs, but it also effectively treats pockets of fat in areas such as the waist, back, hips, flanks, and bra bulge. After fat cells in these areas are destroyed, they are naturally metabolized out of the body over the course of about 3 months. The result is a slimming effect that helps to create a smoother, more streamlined silhouette.
While some patients feel satisfied with their results after just 1 treatment, many people opt for 2 to 3 sessions to make sure their goals are met as completely as possible.
Ideal Candidates
Thanks to its’ nonsurgical nature and versatility, CoolSculpting can be a great help to a variety of patients. You may be a great candidate for the treatment if you:
- Are generally healthy and at or near your ideal weight
- Want a subtle contouring boost rather than a dramatic body transformation
- Need help reducing localized areas of fat a healthy lifestyle can’t specifically reach
- Don’t want to undergo a surgical procedure
- Prefer treatments that don’t require downtime
Patients looking for more dramatic results who are comfortable going the surgical route may be better suited for liposuction or other body contouring procedures designed to reduce fat on a greater scale.
