Hyper-edited art project selfies have now become the backbone of social media. Everyone wants to have perfect-looking, flawless skin. So how do we achieve this look? The answer is: a little bit of everything.
As experts in the industry we are asked this question all of the time. We wish the answer was simple but the truth is you will not get perfect skin with only annual filler or Botox treatments, or a few fancy spa facials. You need to work on it with multiple modalities, both at home and in-office. Similarly, you will receive the best results with weight-loss when you combine eating healthy, sleeping a good amount of hours, lifting weights and including cardio into a workout regime. When working on achieving the perfect skin you need to approach your skin regime the same way. Luckily for you, we have created a great how-to guide in this blog to help you make that happen. Ready? Read on.
Step 1- Partner with an amazing skincare line! Don’t dabble with multiple brands. Use a regime, religiously, that works. One that has evidence based research to reach clinical endpoints. One that WILL elicit a change, and transform your skin. We swear by Dr. Zein Obagi’s ZO Skin Health line. This line is very different than other competitive lines for two top reasons. Firstly, it is formulated with very efficient ingredient delivery systems. If an ingredient doesn’t penetrate properly, or the integrity degrades as it is absorbed, then there is no point having it in the product as it will make very little change, if any. Secondly, each treatment regime is founded on the principle of introducing high potency retinol into the skin. What does this mean? Retinol is an incredibly powerful ingredient that transforms skin. Each protocol works to repair unhealthy skin by waking up sleeping collagen cells and getting your skin to work for you. The result is even toned, hydrated, tolerant, healthy and glowing skin.
Step 2–Injectables. This category is too big to generalize, so lets start with immediate results that can be achieved with fillers. Fillers come in various viscosities, both thick and thin, to address different concerns related to volume in your face. Think of them as molding tools for our talented injectors to use to lift, fill, smooth out lines, build definition in areas such as your jawline or chin, and to correct shape or size in areas like your lips. A good injector uses a small amount of product to elicit a beautiful aesthetic change. You will look rested, younger and more aesthetically proportionate, aka beautiful, but not fake or unnatural. Choose your injector wisely. Don’t go after price, go after talent and expertise. Nothing costs more than a complication!
We also like to balance the use of fillers with something called a muscle relaxant or wrinkle smoother injection. Common recognizable brands are Botox and Nuceiva. These products give you instant results in a matter of days. They work by relaxing the muscle contraction that causes the unwanted line. So for example, your three muscles at the bridge of your nose contract and cause your brow to furrow. This can create frown lines which can make you look angry or upset. When you relax this area, with Botox for example, you can get a softer, smoother appearance. Other treatment areas include a brow lift, smoother forehead lines, smoother chin dimples, softer lines around the eyes, lips and around your neck.
Step 3 – Bio Stimulator Injections. Sometimes it is better to build your own collagen and stimulate new tissue growth rather than to fill you up with dermal filler. We use two brands, Radiesse and Sculptra, to refill your collagen bank and help build back your facial structure. Radiesse is a structural filler that contains calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA. These products integrate into the skin to create the production of collagen and elastin. The result is a renewed structure and very natural-looking results. Sculptra, is an injectable treatment to help gradually replace lost collagen. It is formulated with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to help restore the deep underlying structure. The result is a more supported facial structure with smoother lines. Usually a combination of both dermal fillers and biostimulators are required to elicit a natural, aesthetically beautiful change in an aging face. The good news is, we’re experts at both!
Step 4 – Facials and Peels. From clinic to clinic it is hard to create a measurable comparison with whether the “peels” or “facials” are just making your skin feel soft and smell good, or actually delivering changing benefits such as reducing your pore size, fine lines, restoring hydration and health to your skin! The key is we need to do two things: 1) exfoliate dead superficial layers and 2) deliver antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and hydration into the superficial layers. Treatments like micro needling, PRP, MicroLaser peels and our signature Hydrabright, Champagne facial and GlowGetter treatments do exactly this! A combination of exfoliation and antioxidant delivery is the best way to get natural looking, beautiful and glowing outcomes.
Step 5– Lasers. Another big category that can hardly be grouped into one category. First lets start with Broadband light (BBLs), Intense Pulse Light (IPLs), and Photo facials. All of these are essentially the same thing. They are energy treatments that target pigment and indicated to address sun damaged skin. Healthy, perfect skin is even in tone. This means no brown spots, red dilated veins or pink marks from acne. A series of these regular treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart, will get you that perfect, flawless-looking skin. And you should also start to think as your body as a whole. Extend the love down your neck, chest and hands. Don’t let it be only your face skin that looks perfect and even toned.
The second category of lasers to discuss are called resurfacing treatments. These are the more powerful energy treatments that treat the deeper layers to transform the outer layer of your skin. If you have enlarged pores, deeper fine lines, acne scarring and lots of pigmentation this is the treatment you need to do. Many of our top clients budget to do one treatment yearly or every other year. Think of this treatment like a marathon that will yield incredible results and change in your skin with just one treatment. But there is downtime of approximately a week which needs to be accounted for.
Step 6–Look “Air-brushed” with Hyperdilute Radiesse Wash Injections. This is a new fascinating solution to address superficial crepey skin. We now can dilute the popular Radiesse filler, that has been around for years, to get a perfect milky consistency to very easily treat fine wrinkles and dimples in the skin. Common treatment areas include neck lines, chest lines, crepey skin on the arms, loose skin on the tummy, dimples on the buttocks, outer and inner thighs, above the knees and even hands! This easy, very comfortable procedure will give you an immediate change and results will continue to build and improve for months!
Step 7–Skin tightening. There are many different types of skin tightening technologies, which can be confusing for a customer. Which one is best and why? This is a very common question we often get. The two main categories are: skin tightening devices that use radio frequency, and ones that use ultrasound. Radio frequency works but needs to be maintained often. Think of a pair of jeans that you throw into the dryer and feel tight for a a day before they start to loosen. This is equivalent to a radio frequency skin tightening treatment. You will see a change, but you need to come back often to maintain it. Conversely with ultrasound, you get much longer lasting skin tightening results. Ulthera, is the next evolution in aesthetic science. It delivers focused ultrasound energy to the same foundational layer typically addressed by surgeons during cosmetic surgery — without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. This energy initiates the body’s natural response to stimulate the growth of fresh, new collagen and strengthen weak collagen. Some of our Ulthera patients will see an initial effect right after treatment but the real results appear over 2 to 3 months as new collagen builds, gradually lifting and tightening skin on the face and neck and smoothing skin on the chest.
Step 8–Lastly, Body sculpting. The easiest way to permanently contour your body is with the treatment of something called “Coolsculpting”. CoolSculpting is a breakthrough treatment that uses a process called cryolipolysis to literally freeze fat cells, allowing the body to naturally flush them away while leaving the surrounding cells unharmed. Common treatment areas include your waist, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or love handles. No matter how well you take care of yourself, you may still have problem areas. Extra gym time might not be enough and liposuction may be too much.
