"Many people don't think about the benefits that facial implants can provide."

They can strengthen a weak chin or jaw line. They can improve flat cheek bones. Facial implants can improve the form and contours of your face. They are designed to make facial proportions more harmonious.

For example,  chin augmentation is sometimes needed to balance a slightly larger nose.

A great number of differing facial implants are available. Of course, Dr. Weiglein will discuss your options with you, and make recommendations. The benefits can enhance your appearance and self esteem.

There are two kinds of facial implants available. These are the traditional pre formed chin and cheek implants. These are made of solid silicone or polyethylene. They are meant to augment boney deficiencies. Placing these implants involves local or general anesthesia depending on implant location. The procedures to place them are usually relatively minor one with short recovery times but this does depend on the implant location.

The other types of implants are meant to restore soft tissue deficiencies.

Recently the concept of the "injectable implant"  has come into being due to the availability of safe, long lasting or even  permanent filler materials that can enhance or restore facial contours lost due to age, genetics or lifestyle.

Poly-alkyl-imide

This product is produced by Polymekon Research in Italy.

It is an injectable gel polymer (synthetic) designed to correct small and large soft tissue deficits. When injected under the skin, it is designed to replace depleted fat tissue, restoring the natural fullness and contours of the face. Once implanted, Bio-AlcamidTM, unlike other injectable fillers, becomes covered by a very thin collagen layer (0.02 mm) which completely surrounds the gel, isolating it from the host tissues. It has been particularly effective for those suffering from facial lipoatrophy (facial wasting) that can be the result of anti-retroviral HIV medications or simply normal ageing.

4% poly-alkyl-imide can be defined as a sort of "endoprosthesis", perfectly suitable for soft tissue augmentation and for the correction of different tissue deficiencies, with a long-term safety and efficiency."

Bio-Alcamid is useful where a permanent large volume filler is required. The results are immediate.

The advantage of these "injectable implants" is that there is very little recovery involved, no general anesthetic, no incisions and that they are very customizable to the individuals needs. They are ideal to treat the Deflation associated with facial ageing. (Please See the Three "D's" of Facial Ageing)

Hyaluronic Acid (HLA) Derivatives:

These are  numerous products in this category and many different suppliers of HA fillers. We specialize in products that are produced and distributed  by reputable North American companies.

HA fillers have proven to be safe, effective and when properly applied, longlasting. HA fillers can augment weak chins, restore lost facial volume and restore a softer, less tired appearance. Cosmedica has developed the exclusive FAVORLift technique that can take five years of your appearance in less than 30 minutes with little or no downtime.

Please see injectable fillers in the Cosmedica part of this site for further information about these injectable fillers.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA):

PLLA is the only product in this category. The PLLA is supplied as a powder that is mixed with water and injected into the areas requiring additional volume. The PLLA particles stimulate the body to produce its own collagen over a period of 4-6 weeks. Typically three or more sessions are required to produce the final result. This produces a more subtle enhancement.  Since it is your own collagen you cannot have a reaction to it. The results last up to two years. Please see injectable sculptors in the Cosmedica part of this site for further information about this injectable.
