The wrinkles are gone. The spots are gone. I look so much younger.
Facial lines and wrinkles are evidence of skin deterioration. Age, sun exposure, smoking, and genetics all result in the loss and disruption of collagen. People with rough texture, irregular colour, wrinkling, and other superficial signs of aging often find relief in energy procedures such as laser skin resurfacing. Residents of Burlington, Hamilton, London, and other Ontario cities frequently choose to rejuvenate their skin with laser resurfacing at Cosmedica.
Rejuvenating Your Skin
Our range of customizable laser treatments can address advanced issues of facial lining and uneven colour and texture. Laser skin resurfacing can be tailored to target signs of aging such as:
- Lines and wrinkles

How Laser Resurfacing Works
Laser resurfacing is a precise treatment that improves skin texture and elasticity using the body's natural healing process. The laser targets specific areas and removes the skin's outer layers, prompting the growth of new cells and collagen, which gives skin its youthful appearance.
All laser resurfacing treatments are performed personally by Dr. Weiglein, not a nurse or medical esthetician. Getting effective results from laser resurfacing requires the skills of a physician with Dr. Weiglein's training and experience. This treatment gets dramatic results that are unmatched by similar but less aggressive procedures common at days spas. Treatments at Cosmedica range from medium-strength to aggressive. In some cases, Dr. Weiglein will recommend using general anesthesia during the procedure, which allows him to yield results that are superior to 5 or 6 regular-strength treatments. Topical anesthetic can keep patients comfortable during medium-level laser resurfacing treatments.
For those whose skin is showing early signs of aging, milder energy treatments such as IPL (intense pulsed light) may be more appropriate. Chemical peels and products such as the ZO® Skincare line we offer at our Burlington medical spa are also effective ways to diminish wrinkling by stimulating collagen growth in the deep layers of the skin. Dr. Weiglein and our team can evaluate your skin and design a treatment plan for your exact needs.
What to Expect
Dr. Weiglein asks patients to stop taking certain over-the-counter medications, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, 10 days before treatment to reduce the risk of bleeding. If you smoke, it's requested that you stop for 2 weeks prior to your appointment. The areas being treated are numbed prior to your procedure, which can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the extent of the treatment.
After the procedure, swelling and redness are normal. Itching and stinging are also common during the first 2 to 3 days. Laser resurfacing causes your skin to peel after about a week, and it takes up to 3 weeks before the skin heals. It's important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher during this time.
