It was then, in the early days of his medical school
years, that he developed a
passion for plastic surgery.
Plastic surgery training was unavailable in Calgary at that time which meant a
move to the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. The London
program was renowned as very demanding, very exhaustive and very successful.
Following this Dr. Weiglein was selected to receive the prestigious McLaughlin
Fellowship. He traveled to Japan and Australia for postgraduate training in
Reconstructive Microsurgery which involves the precise reconnection of minute
blood vessels in order to salvage (or transfer) human limbs or tissues. There are
no careless microsurgeons.
Dr. Weiglein returned to Canada in 1982 and started his practice in Burlington,
Ontario. Dr. Weiglein's surgical facility, the Centre for Personal Surgery,
is the
area's first and only free standing, private surgery centre.
It was during these years that Dr. Weiglein began to focus on the unique needs
and desires of the cosmetic surgery patient. This sub-specialty of plastic surgery
allows him to combine his rigorous surgical training with his innate artistic and
esthetic values.
Dr. Weiglein's skills are constantly upgraded. He is a member of the American
Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the
American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, a group among whose members
are some of the best known cosmetic surgeons in the world.
